The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK's nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK's continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job Description:
The Senior Health & Safety Adviser supports the Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE) specialism by leading health and safety (H&S) investigations, reviews and reporting. Takes responsibility for embedding legislation, regulations and key H&S communications across the business.
The ideal candidate will have on site H&S experience in a highly regulated environment. Be comfortable liaising with on-site partners and will take responsibility to ensure H&S obligations are being met.
Leading investigations, audits and assurance reviews, identifying key learning points to drive continuous improvement.
• Act as an escalation point for H&S advice and guidance across the business.
• Manage elements of embedding OHS legislation and regulations across the SDA.
• Support the development and maintenance of policy and SEMS (Safety and Environmental Management Systems), leading on specific aspects of policy management and maintenance.
• Oversee the maintenance and development of appropriate KPIs and BPIs, dashboard reporting and risk registers.
• Manage corporate communications on key H&S messages, ensuring effective delivery
• Communicate with other SDA H&S Advisors on site at Barrow
• Organising Site Safety Training
• Providing insightful advice on the performance review of the Site's Memorandum of Understanding and providing metrics for the site's Safety Health Environmental Committee.
Further duties within the role will include, liaising with business stakeholders to develop H&S systems and procedures. Communicating with all MoD departments across the shipyard and guiding teams on H&S matters. Ensuring that risks in the workplace are controlled and that the organisation is successfully meeting safety standards.
Monitoring, recording and reporting against key performance indicators for internal hazard safety through a variety of key stakeholder groups. Acting as a subject matter expert for internal hazard safety at various design review meetings.
Hybrid and flexible working can be considered for this post but will need regular workplace attendance due to security constraints. Candidates are encouraged to discuss options with the recruiting line manager before submitting an application.
