Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-regarded secondary school in Manchester is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of English to join its successful English department. This is an excellent opportunity for an English specialist who is passionate about high-quality classroom practice, literary study and helping students become confident, thoughtful communicators.

The school has a strong focus on academic progress, clear behaviour routines and a calm learning environment where pupils are supported to achieve and take pride in their work. Staff benefit from supportive leadership, consistent systems and a collaborative department where teachers share resources and work together to improve outcomes.

About the Role

As Teacher of English, you will teach across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of contributing to KS5 depending on experience and timetable. You will deliver a well-sequenced curriculum that develops:

Strong reading comprehension and interpretation across a range of literary and non-fiction texts
Confident analytical writing through modelling, structure and precise feedback
Accurate, fluent written communication supported by explicit teaching of vocabulary, grammar and style
Oracy, discussion and critical thinking through purposeful questioning and classroom dialogue
Exam confidence through deliberate practice, retrieval and clear routines

Students study a rich range of texts, which may include novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction, while developing the skills needed for GCSE English Language and Literature. Lessons are structured to be both challenging and accessible, supporting learners with different starting points through effective scaffolding and stretch and challenge.

The English Department

The English department is supportive, well-organised and committed to strong outcomes. Teachers collaborate closely on planning, share high-quality resources and use common approaches to assessment so that students build knowledge and skills over time.

The department values:

Clear explanation and strong modelling of reading and writing
A knowledge-rich curriculum that builds cultural and literary understanding
Consistent routines that maximise learning time and support positive behaviour
A strong focus on literacy, including vocabulary development and extended writing
Targeted intervention and well-planned revision support at GCSE

English is a central subject within the school, and the department plays a key role in helping students develop the literacy, confidence and analytical skills that support success across the curriculum.

About the School

The school serves a diverse local community and has established a calm, purposeful learning culture supported by clear expectations and consistent behaviour systems. Students are encouraged to aim high, take pride in their work and develop positive attitudes to learning.
