J ob Title: Senior Risk and Controls Partner Contract Type: Permanent Location: Alderley Park Working Style: Hybrid 50% from home / 50% office based We have an opportunity for a Senior Risk & Controls Partner to join our COO Risk Governance & Controls Team at Royal London. The team supports the Chief Operating Office (COO) in delivering both strategic priorities and day‑to‑day operations within risk appetite, working across a broad range of business areas. As a result, we are keen to hear from individuals with experience across different specialisms, including (though not limited to) Customer Operations functions, Technology, Change, Data, Digital and third‑party supplier management. We provide specialist insight and constructive challenge to help embed robust risk and control frameworks, support regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in risk management and governance. In this role you will partner with relevant COO leadership teams to design, implement, and operate an effective risk and controls environment. You will provide constructive support and thoughtful challenge to senior leaders as they deliver their risk accountabilities, maintain oversight of risk registers, and ensure compliance with Group and regulatory requirements. You will also coordinate risk reporting and governance to help embed a positive, learning-focused risk culture across the function. More about the role: Support maintenance of COO risk registers, ensuring risks are current, complete, and reflective of the risk and control landscape within the relevant area. Review risks and controls, using relevant data insights, to ensure COO risk registers remain fit for purpose. Provide specialist support in risk articulation, assessment, and control design. Develop and provide consistent guidance and coaching to allocated COO areas on effective risk management practices. Keep up to date with external best practice as well as developments in technology and the regulatory environment. Support allocated COO areas in understanding and delivering their risk accountabilities, including attestations, policy compliance, and risk appetite statements. Build effective working relationships with COO Leadership members. Support COO teams through internal/external audit and 2nd line assurance activity Enable the embedding of Group-wide risk and control policies in relevant areas, identifying where controls need to be strengthened and supporting delivery of improvements. Identify key risk insights through assessment and analysis of relevant data and management information, including supporting insights from risk events and root cause analysis. Review and support the creation of risk reporting and management information packs for relevant risk meetings. Attend senior forums to provide insight, support, and appropriate challenge through the relevant COO RCC structure. Provide advice and support on the risk acceptance process. Foster a collaborative risk management culture across relevant areas of COO (as allocated) Work with colleagues across the department to implement an effective team operating model that provides a consistent approach to risk management aligned to best practice. Identify and implement continuous improvement and efficiency opportunities across team processes and reporting. What you will bring to the role: Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks (e.g., RCSA, RMS). Including relevant specialisms in COO aligned areas such as Technology and Cyber frameworks (COBIT, ITIL, NIST), Change delivery methodologies (Waterfall and Agile), 3rd party supplier and Operational Resilience. Experience in risk register management, control design, and risk reporting. Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to technology and operations functions. Analytical skills for risk identification, evaluation, and documentation. Ability to improve processes and help embed best practices. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders. Proactive and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with a collaborative approach. Analytical and problem-solving mindset. High integrity and commitment to upholding Group values. Adaptable and open to change. Ability to coach and support colleagues in risk management.
