Job Purpose
Contribute to a project working with Prof Lee Cronin (www.croninlab.com).
The researcher(s) will work in the broad area of chemical robotics and automated chemical synthesis for drug design and evaluation. Skills should include some expertise or interest in robotics, electronics design, control interfaces, automated chemical synthesis, solid phase synthesis, and molecular design. We seek someone with experience or willingness to learn about complex chemical systems, reaction diffusion, analytical chemistry, and chemical engineering.
For appointment at grade 8, some postdoctoral experience in the listed areas or at an interdisciplinary interface, along with research coordination and team management experience, is required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Plan and conduct research individually or collaboratively, aligning with project deliverables and research strategies.
2. Investigate complex chemical systems using robotics and analytics. Collaborate to develop and implement automated platforms for chemical applications.
3. Document research findings, analyze data, maintain records, and draft reports and publications.
4. Survey literature and environment to understand research challenges and develop strategies.
5. Present work at conferences and seminars to enhance research profile.
6. Identify funding sources and assist in proposal development.
7. Develop and maintain collaborations within academia and industry.
8. Lead or participate in meetings, seminars, and research activities to promote knowledge sharing.
9. Supervise and mentor students and junior team members.
10. Stay updated with advances in the field.
11. Engage in personal and professional development.
12. Perform any other duties as assigned by the PI.
For Grade 8:
1. Lead in securing research funding and attracting researchers.
2. Present research at high-profile conferences to elevate the group's profile.
3. Work with industrial partners and establish collaborations.
4. Contribute to team management and increase research outputs and visibility.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent with a strong research record or professional qualifications and experience.
* Knowledge of robotics in chemistry, programming (Python or similar), automated chemical synthesis, data science in drug discovery.
For Grade 8:
* Reputation in a relevant research area, team management skills, and research leadership.
Desirable:
* Understanding of systems chemistry or chemical robotics.
Skills
* Proven skills relevant to electronics, robotics, synthesis, analytics.
* Research creativity, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, project management, IT skills, self-motivation, problem-solving, team leadership.
Experience
Essential:
* Research experience, including postdoctoral or equivalent.
* Experience with automated chemical synthesis platforms and biological assays.
For Grade 8:
* Experience in designing and building automated systems, leading research projects, and grant applications.

Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 7/8: £41,064 - £46,049 / £50,253 - £58,225 per annum.
Full-time, funding up to 1 year with potential extension.
