Contract: Fixed term (maternity cover) – Full-time 40 hours per week

Join Raised In – where early years education meets community impact.

We’re looking for a passionate Deputy Nursery Manager to join the team at Raised in Bristol at Docklands Community Centre for Maternity Cover. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Nursery Manager to support the day-to-day running of the nursery.

We’re a not-for-personal-profit social enterprise with a big heart and a clear mission: to provide exceptional early years education while investing in the communities we serve. At Raised In, we believe that nurseries should feel like home, welcoming, nurturing, and full of joy.

We’re a passionate bunch who love what we do. Every day, we support children to thrive through play-based, child-led learning in beautifully designed spaces that spark curiosity and confidence.

At Raised In our approach centres on child-led learning through play, with a thoughtfully designed curriculum that nurtures curiosity and supports each child’s unique interests. From the baby room through to preschool, we focus on every stage of development, helping children grow in confidence and preparing them for their exciting next steps towards school.

Our St Pauls nursery is a hidden gem, small and relaxed, with just 56 places across three light-filled rooms. It has a homely feel, a wide veranda, and a private garden that gives children space to explore and grow.

Located just a 5-minute walk from Cabot Circus and Stokes Croft, and only 10 minutes from Montpelier station, it’s easy to reach by bike or public transport. Due to limited parking, we’re especially keen to hear from candidates who live locally or can commute sustainably.

Why work with Raised in Bristol?

We really value our expert team. As well as offering competitive pay for all roles in a friendly and supportive team, you’ll receive lots of great benefits:

1. Competitive pay
2. Paid one hour lunch break
3. Paid sick leave above statutory from day one
4. 50% off for your child in our nurseries
5. Enhanced maternity pay
6. Employer pension
7. ‘Refer a friend’ bonus for introducing new team members to us
8. 28 days holiday (inc bank holidays, FTE)
9. Your Birthday off and an Annual Wellbeing Day (in addition to your annual leave)
10. Plus 3 extra days off between Christmas and New Year
11. 24/7 access to a remote GP for you and your family
12. Career progression and training opportunities

What about you?

You’ll have a can-do attitude and be a confident and approachable communicator with the team and families. As a leader, you’ll be a positive and patient role model, with a supportive approach to getting the best out of the team and mentoring them to success.

See the job description for a full list of duties and requirements.

If you’re looking for an exciting new challenge, where you can make a real difference, then we want to hear from you!

This is a one-year fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave, with the possibility of a permanent position if a suitable role becomes available after the contract ends.

You’ll have (in line with Raised in Behaviours)

13. The ability to contribute to creating a welcoming, inclusive, collaborative and supportive environment
14. Children’s needs at the forefront of everything that you do
15. A positive mindset, approaching tasks with a can-do-attitude
16. A strong work ethic, setting a good example for others and supporting your team
17. The want to make a difference, working in partnership positively with your team
18. The want to be part of trying or suggesting new initiatives and ways of doing things
19. High standards for yourself, team and the nursery
20. A reflective mindset, open to feedback and ongoing self-improvement

Applicant requirements

To apply for this role you’ll need a full and relevant Early Years qualification, such as:

21. NNEB
22. NVQ Level 3+ Diploma (Childcare & Education)
23. BTEC (Childcare)
24. QTS
25. Foundation Degree or BA Hons in Early Years Education or Child Development

Please note: The Level 3 Award in Early Years Education does not meet the DfE’s criteria for a “full and relevant” Level 3 qualification for staffing ratios in early years settings.

You’ll also need:

26. The right to work in the UK
27. The ability to commute reliably to one of our nursery settings

As part of the recruitment process, we’ll ask for evidence of your right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we’re not able to sponsor work visas at this time.

If you hold an Early Years qualification awarded outside the UK, you’ll need to apply for an Early Years Statement from the Ecctis Early Years Service before we can process your application.

As a part of our safer recruitment policy and commitment to safeguarding, we will require you to complete our application form directly on our website during the process. It’s super easy to use and mobile-friendly.

Safeguarding Statement

Raised in Bristol at Docklands Community Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to understand and share this commitment. We have a shared commitment to develop a culture of respect, where discrimination is not tolerated. We welcome all applications, including those from under-represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
