Offer description

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

Department

The Centre for Teaching and Learning supports the academic development of teaching at the University by:

* advising on course and curriculum design
* enabling the adoption of new technology and digital resources
* assisting in piloting new teaching methodology.

We support the most valuable teaching practices at the collegiate University and provide guidance for students and staff as they adopt new practices. We work to empower communities of educators and students to work together to advance Oxford's outstanding personalised teaching for the contemporary world. A key theme of our Access and Participation Plan is to provide targeted academic transition and skills support to students from backgrounds underrepresented at Oxford, so that students from all backgrounds feel welcome at Oxford, know that they belong here, and can develop the appropriate academic skills to thrive.

The Academic Skills Development project is a collaborative venture between the Centre for Teaching and Learning, the Disability Advisory service, the Language Centre and the Student Data Insights team. The project takes a whole-university approach to developing and integrating skills provision into support services and college and departmental teaching so that all students encounter academic skills development as a normal part of their studies.

What We Offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing, and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

* An excellent contributory pension scheme
* 38 days annual leave
* A comprehensive range of childcare services
* Family leave schemes
* Cycle loan scheme
* Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
* Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

This is a full-time, fixed-term post, where flexible or part-time working can be considered.

About the Role

We are looking for an individual to take on significant leadership of the Academic Skills Project as it reaches a critical stage in ensuring the completion of specific work strands and working with the project manager to develop a benefits realisation plan for the project and secure future funding. This senior role will oversee the consultancy service that supports the project across the collegiate university, in line with the project's theory of change. The postholder will manage team members to deliver the consultancy and the development of new toolkits, guidance, training and development opportunities to support academic skills development at Oxford.

Your strong foundation in educational development within higher education (HE) will enable you to contribute effectively to the project team and drive enhancements in academic skills development. Drawing on your expertise in the scholarship of academic support, you will promote innovative and inclusive practices that empower staff to provide exceptional learning experiences for students. You will have a proven track record of facilitating professional development opportunities for staff, providing inclusive, relevant, and engaging learning experiences. You will have an excellent understanding of diverse approaches to academic skills development, informed by scholarship. You will possess strong organisational and problem-solving skills, balancing multiple priorities and working autonomously with minimal supervision. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills allow you to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. Furthermore, your interpersonal skills enable productive collaboration with colleagues from various University departments and roles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
