As a Project Cost Controller at MDL, your role is to ensure disciplined financial control across the full project lifecycle. You are responsible for providing timely, accurate, and actionable finance information to support project management decision-making, ensure financial integrity, and enable the successful delivery of projects to target margins.

Line management is provided by the Project Cost Team Lead, supporting your growth, leadership effectiveness, and alignment with MDL’s strategic direction. Workflow and prioritisation for you and your team are guided by the Project Management Office to which your resources deliver.

Working as a core part of the Project Controls service function within Global Projects, you collaborate closely with Project Managers, Procurement, Document Control, and Finance to maintain real-time visibility of costs, forecasts, commitments, and performance.

Accountabilities

* Deliver accurate and timely cost data to Project Managers to support project decision-making.
* Monitor and track all project costs, commitments, and actuals using approved tools and templates.
* Maintain real-time forecasts and provide variance analysis with clear commentary.
* Ensure all cost data complies with internal standards, audit requirements, and ERP integrity.
* Support change control and budget management through documentation and cost impact assessments.
* Produce monthly reports and cost summaries in standard MDL formats.
* Collaborate with Procurement, Document Control, and Finance to ensure cost integrity.
* Provide clear communication of financial data to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Participate in project meetings, reviews, and retrospectives to provide financial insight.
* Escalate anomalies or emerging cost risks to the Project Manager and Cost Team Lead as needed.
* To follow the process of continuous improvement and to demonstrate a continuous improvement approach towards all processes, products and tasks within their role, to maintain and report key performance indicators, and to act as required to ensure agreed performance standards and expectations are achieved or excelled.
* To maintain good relationships with clients and other stakeholders as well as to act as an MDL ambassador at all times.
* To show commitment to HSEQ and to set good personal examples on HSEQ issues within their area of operation and influence. Required to report all accidents and near misses to their line manager, and to always lead by example and set high standards in all aspects of their role.
* To actively participate in all aspects of HSEQ awareness, education, training and communication. Accountable for stopping a job if perceived that it is not safe to progress for personnel or the equipment/ product, or if not adhering to MDL standards or procedures.
* To encourage the team to challenge internal and external processes, procedures and methodologies to improve the MDL offering.
* To actively encourage innovation within the team, driving ideas form back-deck operations through the organisation.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Training)

* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a project cost control or project accounting role.
* Database knowledge in Project / Finance Software and cloud based SharePoint advantageous.
* Formal qualification (Finance, Engineering, or related discipline) - Preferred.
* Familiarity with ERP and cost management software.
* Strong Microsoft Excel skills and financial modelling ability.
* Understanding of the full project lifecycle and cost management principles.
