Job overview
We are seeking an experienced Pre-Operative Assessment nurse to join our team at WGH on a temporary secondment basis. The successful candidate will be part of a proactive team ensuring optimal theatre capacity utilization and a positive patient experience for elective surgeries.
Applicants should be organized, possess excellent communication skills, and have a good understanding of elective surgery, anaesthetic risks, and co-morbidities.
Main duties
Conduct holistic pre-operative assessments, manage complex co-morbidities, promote health, and work autonomously. Collaborate with surgical clinicians, anaesthetists, GPs, and other specialists to ensure patients are fit and ready for surgery at appropriate times and locations.
Organizational context
Our hospitals include Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and Westmorland General Hospital, along with community healthcare facilities. We provide a range of services including emergency, outpatient, diagnostic, and surgical care.

Person specification
* Degree-level education or working towards it
* Monitoring/Assessing qualification or Teaching qualification/Trainer's Certificate
* Proficient IT skills (Word, Excel)
* Recent clinical experience in POA or similar setting
* Ability to lead clinically as appropriate
* High degree of autonomy
* Physical assessment skills, including ECG understanding
* People management skills
* Change management capability
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible
* Diplomatic in difficult situations
* Experience in health promotion
* Understanding of R&D and RTT pathways
