Mechanical Manager (Water Safety Lead) – Healthcare Environment
We're seeking a highly skilled and proactive Mechanical Manager with a strong water safety bias to lead and oversee mechanical services across a complex healthcare estate. This is a key technical role requiring deep expertise in water systems management, statutory compliance, and the operational delivery of safe, reliable mechanical services.
You will act as a subject matter expert for all water-related systems, ensuring compliance with relevant HTM's, HSG, ACoP L8, and all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements. Working closely with clinical, estates, and operational teams, you will ensure the estate's water safety and mechanical infrastructure are managed effectively, safely, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the operational management of mechanical systems with a primary focus on water safety, including hot and cold water systems, TMVs, calorifiers, and associated infrastructure.
2. Ensure full compliance with HTM's, HSG, ACoP L8, Water Safety Group requirements, and all statutory obligations.
3. Act as the technical lead for water safety, supporting the Responsible Person (Water) and contributing to Water Safety Group meetings.
4. Oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with healthcare compliance standards.
5. Manage contractors and internal teams to ensure all works meet legal, regulatory, and client requirements.
6. Provide technical leadership, swift problem resolution, and expert guidance on mechanical and water-related issues.
7. Support audits, compliance reviews, root cause analysis, and improvement initiatives.
8. Maintain high standards of safety, performance, and documentation across all mechanical and water systems.
What We're Looking For
9. Strong mechanical engineering background with substantial experience in water safety management.
10. Preferably experienced in a healthcare environment, with working knowledge of HTMs, particularly water related.
11. Relevant mechanical or building services qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent).
12. Demonstrable experience managing complex water systems and ensuring statutory compliance.
13. Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
14. A proactive approach with the ability to resolve technical challenges quickly and effectively.
15. Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation, guidance, and best practice.
