We are seeking a Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery to join our team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across programmes at various levels. In this role, you will develop engaging lesson plans, schemes of work, and learning materials that align with curriculum requirements and industry standards. You will also provide practical demonstrations and ensure safe, effective hands-on training within the workshop environment.
You will also act as a personal tutor, providing on-programme guidance and referring learners to the college’s study support and learner services where appropriate. In addition, you will be required to attend college events such as open evenings, parents’ evenings, and employer or community liaison activities.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, training, and supporting learners to succeed in the carpentry and joinery trade. Demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding, while being reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team. A professional, approachable, and supportive manner with learners and colleagues is essential, as is a strong awareness of health and safety and a commitment to maintaining high standards within the workshop environment.
You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Previous experience delivering teaching, training, or mentoring within an FE, apprenticeship, or workplace setting is essential, along with a strong commitment to providing a high-quality experience for students, staff, and other stakeholders.
Your Day-to-Day Impact
* Deliver teaching across a range of learning programmes as required.
* Conduct interviews, provide guidance, and complete initial and diagnostic assessments to support the selection and induction of learners onto programmes.
* Monitor and assess learner progress within established frameworks, offering regular and constructive feedback.
* Contribute to the development, design, review, and evaluation of curriculum content and associated learning materials, including schemes of work, lesson plans, course booklets, and course reviews.
* Lead the internal verification process for the programme and liaise with external verifiers as needed.
* Maintain accurate course files and logs and provide termly quality reports to the Academic Board and Quality Office.
* Act as a personal tutor, offering on-programme support and signposting learners to relevant study support and learner services.
* Attend college events such as open evenings, parents’ evenings, and employer or community liaison activities.
* Participate flexibly in college-wide activities, including duty rotas, enrolment, marketing events, and staff or student initiatives.
* Engage in training and team development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Take reasonable care for the health and safety of oneself and others affected by work activities, in line with legal requirements.
* Demonstrate commitment to the College’s Health and Safety Policy and contribute to its safety priorities.
* Promote and uphold the principles of equality and diversity in line with the College’s policy.

Qualifications
* A Level 3 (or higher) qualification in Carpentry and Joinery or a related Construction discipline (essential).
* A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, or willingness to work towards) (essential).
* Assessor qualification (A1/TAQA) and/or Internal Verifier qualification (V1/IQA) (desirable).
* English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent (essential).
* Up-to-date CPD and industry training relevant to Carpentry and Joinery (desirable).
Experience
* Proven industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery, with strong practical knowledge of site carpentry and bench joinery (essential).
* Experience delivering teaching, training, or mentoring in an FE, apprenticeship, or workplace environment (desirable).
* Experience assessing learners and preparing them for vocational qualifications or apprenticeships (desirable).
* Experience working with awarding bodies and understanding assessment/IV processes (desirable).
* Experience maintaining workshop safety standards and managing tools, equipment, and materials (essential).
Skills & Competencies
* Strong practical skills across Carpentry and Joinery, with the ability to demonstrate techniques safely and effectively.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to learners of varying abilities.
* Ability to motivate, support, and inspire learners to achieve their full potential.
* Good organisational skills, including lesson planning, record-keeping, and assessment tracking.
* Strong classroom and workshop management skills, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
* Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learner needs.
* Competence in using IT systems for teaching, tracking progress, and administration.
