Behaviour & SEMH Teaching Assistant – Classroom & Community Based – Full Time

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a specialist education provision based in the SA9 area to recruit a full-time Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This provision offers a highly personalised and therapeutic approach to education for children and young people who have struggled to access mainstream settings. The environment is calm, structured and supportive, with a strong focus on emotional regulation, engagement and positive relationships.
The Role
This is a varied and rewarding role that includes a mixture of classroom-based learning and community-based activities. You will work closely with teaching staff and support teams to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.
Responsibilities include:
Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis
Assisting with tailored learning activities and interventions
Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies
Taking part in off-site and community-based learning activities
Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils
Helping to create a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment
SEMH Experience – Why It’s Essential
Pupils within this provision may present with:
Challenging behaviour
Emotional dysregulation
Anxiety, trauma or attachment needs
Previous experience working with SEMH, behaviour support, youth work, care, or similar settings is essential. You’ll need to be calm under pressure, resilient, patient and able to respond positively to challenging situations while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
Requirements
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to location and community activities)
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or similar)
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Willingness to complete full safeguarding and compliance checks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
