IT & Systems Administrator – Job Description

About Design ID

Design ID is a multidisciplinary civil and structural engineering consultancy delivering high quality, thoughtful design solutions across a wide range of projects. We place a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and using technology effectively to support both our people and our projects.

As the business continues to grow, we are looking to bring in a dedicated IT professional to take ownership of our day to day IT operations and support the wider team.

Job brief

The role of the IT & Systems Administrator is to take ownership of the day to day management of Design ID’s IT environment, acting as the first point of contact for staff support, onboarding, hardware, software, and security.

This role is hands on and practical, ensuring systems run smoothly and securely, while also helping to improve how technology supports the business. There is a strong opportunity for the right candidate to develop into data, automation, and Power Platform work, supporting wider digital initiatives across the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

IT Operations & Support

* Act as the primary point of contact for day‑to‑day IT issues and requests
* Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across core systems
* Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues
* Liaise with external IT providers where required

Staff Onboarding & Offboarding

* Set up laptops, monitors, mobile devices, and peripherals
* Provision user accounts, licences, and security access
* Ensure leavers are offboarded securely and consistently

Hardware & Software Management

* Maintain an inventory of company hardware and licences
* Manage procurement, setup, replacement, and lifecycle of devices
* Administer core business software (e.g. Microsoft 365, security tools, specialist software)

Security & Compliance

* Support implementation and day‑to‑day adherence to IT and cyber‑security policies
* Manage endpoint security, updates, backups, and basic monitoring
* Assist with incident response, access reviews, and good security hygiene across the business
* Work in line with internal policies and data protection requirements

Process Improvement & Documentation

* Document IT processes, onboarding steps, and common fixes
* Identify recurring issues and propose improvements or automation
* Help reduce reliance on ad‑hoc or informal IT support

Behavioural Skills

* Comfortable supporting non technical users in a clear, friendly way
* Organised, methodical, and security minded
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of issues
* Pro-active, solutions focused approach to resolving problems
* Strong attention to detail and consistency in process
* Clear communicator with a collaborative, supportive style
* Willingness to learn and develop into wider digital responsibilities

Qualifications and Experience

Proven experience in an IT support, systems administrator, or similar role

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Windows environments

Experience supporting hardware, software, and day to day user issues

Experience managing user accounts, permissions, licences, and access controls

Awareness of cyber security best practice and a practical approach to security hygiene

Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and maintain service quality

Desirable:

Experience in professional services or consultancy environments

Familiarity with device management, endpoint security, or cloud platforms

Interest in data, automation, business systems, or reporting (e.g. Power BI)

Interest or experience in Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate)

Experience supporting internal digital tools and workflows that benefit project delivery

Interest in working alongside digital engineering and geospatial teams on IT centric platforms

What We Offer

* A supportive, collaborative working environment
* Clear ownership of IT within the business (not a helpdesk silo)
* Opportunity to grow into digital, data, and automation work
* Flexible Working Polocies
* A role that directly improves how the business operates day‑to‑day
