PE Teacher – Secondary Autism School (Burgess Hill Area)
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher to join a specialist secondary school supporting young people with autism, located just outside of Burgess Hill.

The role is offered as a one-year maternity cover, with the potential for a longer-term or permanent opportunity for the right candidate. The school is keen to appoint someone before the end of term, giving you valuable time to settle in, build relationships, and become fully familiar with routines ahead of the new academic year.
The Role
* Teaching and tutoring a Year 8 class within a specialist autism setting
* Delivering PE and Forest School sessions to promote active, hands-on learning
* Planning and adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs
* Supporting students with communication, emotional regulation, and confidence
* Creating a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment
* Building strong, positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
* Working collaboratively with support staff and the wider school team

* Location: Just outside Burgess Hill
* Position: One-year maternity cover
* Salary: M1 – M2 (dependent on experience)
* Setting: Specialist secondary autism school
* Start: Opportunity to begin before the end of term
* Process: School-based interview required
* Transport: Driver preferred (shuttle bus available)
Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
* Experience working with young people with autism or SEND (highly desirable)
* Passion for inclusive education and supporting every learner to thrive
* Strong classroom management and communication skills
* Ability to create engaging, flexible, and differentiated lessons
* A proactive, positive team player
