Job Purpose
To ensure the community centre is cleaned and maintained to a high standard, providing a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment for all staff, volunteers, and visitors.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Carry out cleaning of all areas of the centre including toilets, kitchen, hall, meeting rooms, corridors, and offices.
* Sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, and dust as required.
* Empty bins, dispose of waste safely, and manage recycling appropriately.
* Ensure cleaning materials are stored securely and used in line with health & safety guidance.
* Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, etc.) as required.
* Monitor the condition of facilities and report any maintenance or repair needs to the Centre Manager.
* Follow health & safety procedures, including COSHH regulations.
* Maintain confidentiality and respect the diverse community using the centre.
* Any other reasonable cleaning duties requested by the Centre Manager.
Person Specification – Cleaner
Essential
* Experience of cleaning in a workplace or public building.
* Ability to use cleaning equipment and materials safely and effectively.
* Understanding of health & safety in relation to cleaning (COSHH, safe handling, etc.).
* Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
* Flexible and adaptable to the needs of the centre.
Desirable
* Previous experience of cleaning in a community centre, school, or similar environment.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality in a community setting.
* First aid or basic health & safety training.
* Willingness to work occasional extra hours to cover events or staff absence.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £12.60 per hour
