Job Description

As a Senior Departmental People Partner (Finance), you’ll be responsible for supporting Checkout.com’s Finance organisation during an important phase of growth and transformation. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership to strengthen organisational effectiveness, shape team culture, and ensure Finance colleagues are engaged, supported, and set up for success.

This is a unique opportunity to partner directly with Finance Leadership during a period of transformation, shaping how the function grows, operates, and empowers colleagues to thrive.

You’ll provide hands on and strategic counsel across a wide range of people topics including engagement and performance management to change communications and talent development. Working closely with the wider people team, you’ll design and deliver initiatives that build a high-performance culture within Finance.

Amongst other duties, this role will be primarily responsible for:

Organisational Health


* Monitor and review Finance’s organisational health metrics (attrition, engagement, spans/layers, etc.) and share insights with leaders.
* Create and implement initiatives to support the health of each metric (attrition, spans/layers etc), ensuring all ‘red’ metrics have a specific action plan in place to address
* Co-create initiatives that strengthen team culture, retention, and performance.

Organisational Design And Architecture

* Partner with Finance leadership to ensure team structures are set up for long-term success balancing a, scalability, and operational efficiency.
* Regularly review and assess organisational design (spans and layers, levelling, job titles, compensation) to ensure structures are healthy, sustainable, and aligned to business goals.
* Collaborate with leaders to recommend improvements that enhance effectiveness, strengthen talent alignment, and enable colleagues to do their best work.
* Translate workforce and engagement data into actionable insights that help finance leaders make informed decisions
* Support Finance leaders in building globally connected teams, ensuring our location strategy enables scale & inclusivity
* Ensure Finance’s organisational design supports broader business priorities, including future workforce planning and global location strategy.
* Work closely with the Change & Communications team to ensure Finance design initiatives are consistent with Checkout.com’s overall organisational approach and values.

Change Management

* Provide strategic advice to Finance leadership on all organisational changes including team structures, processes, policies, and ways of working ensuring these changes strengthen effectiveness and future scalability.
* Partner with the Change & Communications team to deliver clear impact assessments and identify where support is needed for leaders and teams.
* Develop and execute tailored communication strategies so that all changes are well understood, transparent, and positively received.
* Ensure Finance colleagues and stakeholders remain engaged and informed throughout transformation activity, supporting strong adoption and minimising disruption.
* Track the impact of change initiatives using clear success measures, and run regular reviews to identify lessons learned and embed continuous improvement.

Program Delivery

* Complete annual planning in partnership with the People Products team for the design and delivery of all products into the department. Additionally, ensure all products are thoughtfully designed, communicated, launched and adapted to meet the needs of your client groups.
* Deliver the annual strategic workforce planning process in partnership with FP&A and Change & Communications team, ensuring all workforce planning is aligned to strategic objectives (including Checkout’s location strategy and organisational design policies)
* Execute on all talent related processes for the department, including the annual Growth & Performance Cycle process
* Support Finance in balancing stability (e.g. audit-readiness) with forward looking initiatives such as automation and new operating models
* Conduct an annual talent review and succession planning process, collaborating with senior leadership to identify key individuals and their talent readiness for future roles.

Engagement Planning & Execution

* Conduct quarterly Peakon analysis reviews to monitor engagement trends, hotspots and improvement opportunities.
* Design and implement engagement action plans that address engagement hot spots, promote a high-performance culture and improve overall employee satisfaction and retention.

Departmental Comms Planning

* Design and maintain a communications strategy for the department which aims to provide transparent communication regarding all people topics i.e people updates, org updates, people product updates etc)
* Own end-to-end communication of People topics within your client groups including organisational updates and changes, policy and process updates and communication plans on department-specific initiatives.

Talent Acquisition

* Partner closely with departmental recruiters, fostering a sense of shared ownership over talent acquisition delivery and service for the department
* Ensure all backfill requests and net new headcount requests are reviewed and align to defined organisational policies and location strategy
* Active involvement in senior or key hiring as part of interview panels and/or debriefs.

Management

* Provide day to day management and direction to Department People Partner support resources, ensuring clear communication of performance expectations, role responsibilities and key deliverables and objectives.
* Foster an environment that encourages learning, collaboration and accountability, empowering DPP resources to take ownership of their work.
* Identify skill gaps and growth opportunities, ensuring you provide feedback, mentorship and coaching to enable personal development.
* Provide

Leadership & Coaching

* Provide coaching to managers and senior leadership to help build overall leadership capability, including emotional intelligence and decision-making abilities.
* Coach managers and leadership on leading organisational change, helping them manage resistance, communicate effectively and inspire confidence in their teams during periods of change.
* Support and guide department leadership through complex challenges, offering frameworks and techniques to improve critical thinking and quality decision making.
* Coach managers and leaders to build high-performing teams by helping them identify and set performance standards and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance.

Additional

* Collaborate with People Regional Leaders globally to ensure alignment on departmental priorities, initiatives and changes.
* Participate in Director+ hiring processes for the department, assessing all candidates against Checkout.com's operating principles and leadership expectations.

The Ideal Candidate For The Role Will Bring

* Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business or any other related field preferred
* The ability to achieve results in a fast-paced environment and navigate leaders through a variety of organizational changes
* Experience partnering with leaders through significant transformation or organisational change
* Proven experience as a people partner, ideally with exposure to finance or corporate functions
* Deep influencing skills and a solid track record of demonstrating excellent decision quality
* High level of emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, empathy, and interpersonal skills, to effectively manage relationships and resolve conflicts.
* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyse root causes, and develop effective solutions.
* Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to balance employee advocacy with organisational needs
* High level of emotional intelligence and the ability to manage sensitive and complex issues on behalf of the organisation
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to various audiences
* Capability to drive innovative People solutions and practices, leveraging creativity and forward-thinking approaches to address business needs
* Awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultural and organisational contexts, with the ability to tailor HR strategies to different environments
* Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills
* Strong orientation towards understanding and meeting the needs of internal clients and stakeholders, ensuring high levels of service and support
* A demonstrated ability to practise a high level of confidentiality
