Role details:
Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team on a contract basis in Basildon. This is a fully onsite role as part of the Integrated Sensing and Protection line of business, renowned for delivering defence electronics, mission-critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare, communications and surveillance.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
Preparing and organising Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintaining governance through the Lifecycle Management process, and creating or reviewing Manufacturing Plans.
Providing manufacturing decision-making information and resolution proposals.
Improving manufacturing efficiency by analysing capacity, planning workflows, determining space requirements, and designing equipment layouts.
Reviewing manufacturing documentation, including input to process-specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, and specifications.
Assuring product and process quality by designing methods, validating/verifying process capabilities, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
Contributing to failure investigations and problem-solving techniques (e.g. 8D).
Mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members to build overall capability.
Job Requirements:
Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience in a similar role.
In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes and principles.
People management and leadership skills, including effective performance and change management.
Ability to influence and negotiate using data and analysis to support reasoning.
A thorough understanding of the operational framework and business processes.
Experience in planning and scheduling workload for self and others.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and associated processes.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a non-technical way.
Desirable Skills:
Experience developing manufacturing capability with an understanding of Industry 4.0 / Smart factory principles.
