The University of Liverpool is a Russell Group University with a wide variety of academic and non-academic activities. An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Assistant Radiation Protection Adviser to join the Universitys Radiation Protection Office. You will join a small team comprising an RPA/RWA and two Technicians. You will assist with maintaining, developing and advising on implementation of the Universitys policies and procedures in relation to ionising and non-ionising radiation safety, the management of radioactive materials/waste, environmental protection and legislative compliance. You will assist with the provision of advice and practical guidance on all aspects of ionising and non-ionising radiation safety to a variety of University departments; these include academic research and teaching departments in the fields of physical sciences and engineering, health and life sciences and the Universitys veterinary hospitals and practices. In addition, key functions of the role include assisting with advising on and monitoring compliance with legislation and environmental permits, liaising with external regulatory bodies, carrying out regular audits and inspections of University departments, overseeing management of the Universitys central radioactive waste service and the provision of training to staff and students. You should have: Honours Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject. Certificates of Competence to act as a Radiation Protection Adviser/Radioactive Waste Adviser, or be working towards attaining these. Experience as a professional RPA in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, preferably within the Higher Education or Research sector. Excellent communication skills at all levels. Flexibility in approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team are essential. This is a challenging role, where the right person can make a real difference.
