We're hiring a hands-on Field Technician / Engineer to operate and maintain a pneumatic ship unloader at our cement import terminal. After a training period in Glasgow, you'll be based in Liverpool and share responsibility with the terminal engineering team for day-to-day operation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of the unloader and its supporting systems.
What You'll Do
* Commissioning & Start-ups: Support installation, commissioning and optimization of the unloader and auxiliary systems (electrical, automation, pneumatic, mechanical).
* Operations: Execute and oversee unloading operations safely and efficiently; coordinate with vessel/terminal teams.
* Maintenance: Perform routine, preventive and corrective maintenance; manage spares and consumables; keep accurate records in CMMS.
* Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve electrical/automation (Siemens TIA, SCADA, PLC), mechanical, and pneumatic issues quickly to minimize downtime.
* Reliability & RCA: Lead failure analysis; implement corrective & preventive actions for recurring faults.
* Documentation: Create/review SOPs, maintenance procedures, and technical instructions.
* HSE Leadership: Champion LOTO, permit-to-work, risk assessments, and emergency response drills; ensure compliance with site and regulatory requirements.
* Collaboration: Liaise with OEMs and vendors; train and mentor operators/technicians.
What You'll Bring
* Industrial background: 10+ years in maintenance/commissioning within heavy industry (ideally cement or steel) with at least 5+ years in a lead/supervisory role.
* Strong candidates with 5–9 years may be considered for the Technician track.
* Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Automation/Mechanical/Mechatronics or similar.
* Mobility & Schedule: This is a field-based role in a port/terminal environment. You must be able to travel domestically and occasionally internationally when needed, and be genuinely comfortable with flexible hours, shift work and occasional nights/weekends aligned to vessel schedules and operational needs (including participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota).
* Technical profile: Solid experience in Siemens TIA Portal, PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, VFDs, MCCs and commissioning; able to lead fault-finding and support modifications OR strong hands-on experience with heavy industrial / bulk-handling equipment (e.g. conveyors, elevators, screw feeders, pneumatic conveying/ship unloaders, rotating equipment, hydraulics and compressed-air systems); able to lead mechanical maintenance, repairs and reliability improvements.
* Nice to Have: Pneumatic conveying/ship unloader exposure, compressed-air systems, Aerzen/roots blowers, CMMS proficiency, and HSE certifications (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH, Working at Height, Confined Space).
Work Environment
Port/terminal setting with outdoor exposure. Role involves standing, climbing, working at height, and confined-space entry (with proper training and permits).
