The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.
The Forensic Information Databases Service (FINDS) manages national systems that link forensic evidence from crime scenes to individuals, including arrestees, vulnerable persons, and missing persons. These systems include the National DNA Database (NDNAD), IDENT1 (fingerprints), and the National Footwear Database. The service ensures the integrity and accuracy of records across these platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the criminal justice system in maintaining the integrity of the National DNA Database (NDNAD).
Job description
As a Data Reconciliation Analyst, you will support police forces and key stakeholders by investigating and resolving data anomalies on the NDNAD and Police National Computer (PNC). Your work will help maintain the quality and reliability of national forensic data, contributing to public safety and justice.
Key responsibilities:
* Database Analysis: Interrogate NDNAD and PNC systems to identify and investigate data discrepancies.
* Investigative Reporting: Research anomalies and prepare reports with recommendations for corrective actions to uphold data integrity.
* Data Correction: Implement necessary amendments to ensure accurate DNA profile loading and record consistency.
* Stakeholder Liaison: Collaborate with police officers, support staff, and forensic experts to resolve anomalies, including identity issues and administrative errors.
* Advisory Role: Provide guidance on biometric data retention and legislation, including the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.
* Information Requests: Support responses to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests.
* System Transition Support: Contribute to the transition from PNC to the Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS), including user acceptance testing (UAT).
Working pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. The system access required for this role means there is no option for any home working, full office attendance is expected.
Person specification
Essential criteria:
* Must have completed the PNC course qualification.
* In-depth experience and current working knowledge of the Police National Computer (PNC).
* Knowledge of the NDNAD.
* Strong research and problem-solving skills in forensic or policing data contexts.
* Proven ability to analyse information and determine appropriate actions.
* Accurate and diligent record-keeping for audit purposes.
* Understanding of relevant policies and procedures affecting law enforcement and justice systems.
* Knowledge of legislation on biometric data and criminal records, including PoFA 2012 and PACE 1984.
Desirable criteria:
* Familiarity with central government operations and public service performance metrics.
* Experience in regulated environments, particularly forensic science or law enforcement.
Qualifications
Must have completed the Police National Computer (PNC) course qualification.

1. Sift – week commencing 13th October 2025
The sift will be held on the CV, Personal Statement and Behaviour Making Effective Decisions.
