Job purpose
We currently have a vacancy for an Apprentice Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within the Engineering Department at our Hawick site.
As an Apprentice Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining the smooth and efficient running of our high-speed manufacturing operations. This hands-on role will give you experience in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, helping to minimise downtime and keep production moving. You'll learn how to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and support continuous improvement initiatives, all while working alongside a team of experienced engineers.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance within a fast-paced production environment. Over the four-year apprenticeship, you’ll work toward an NC and HNC in Electrical Engineering, and SVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Performing Engineering Operations. In year one, you’ll spend four days at college and one in the workplace. Year two involves two college days and three workdays. In years three and four, you'll be fully based on-site, applying your skills and completing your SVQ logbook, while also earning additional industry-relevant qualifications.
Applicants should have a minimum of three National 5 passes, ideally including Mathematics, English and/or Physics, with a technical subject being an advantage. We’re looking for individuals who are self-motivated, disciplined, and organised, with strong time management skills and a consistent record of attendance and punctuality. You must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately and work well as part of a team. Reliability, honesty, and a strong work ethic are essential, along with a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new challenges.
