About The Role

Technical & Safety Instructor

Are you someone who loves solving technical problems and helping others learn? Got a background in chemistry, safety, or nuclear—and a knack for making complex things easy to understand? If you're a great communicator, a natural team player, and excited about sharing your knowledge through hands-on training, we’d love to hear from you.

At EDF, success is personal. Here you’ll develop a career that’s unique to you. Whether you want to move horizontally, deepen your specialty, or advance through the levels — it’s your journey, powered by us. Join us and be part be of our mission to help Britain achieve Net Zero.

The opportunity

As a Technical & Safety Instructor, you’ll join the Nuclear Skills Alliance team, helping to shape the future of nuclear operations. Once qualified, you’ll design and deliver high-quality technical and safety training in both classroom and simulated environments.

You'll ensure content is accurate, engaging, and meets the highest standards—supporting learners across the UK, including at Hinkley Point C, where we’re building the next generation of low-carbon nuclear power.

This role is based at Hinkley Point C, working to a hybrid model.

Pay, Benefits And Culture

Alongside a competitive salary starting from £50,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of your role, you will undertake Fleet Certified Instructor (FCI) training within two years, ensuring you meet the standards required to deliver high-quality instruction across the fleet.

You’ll be responsible for developing and delivering Technical & Safety training, with an initial focus on the Chemistry Programme. Over time, your scope will expand to include Nuclear Safety, Environmental topics, Radiological Protection, and Engineering.

Training will be delivered in a range of settings, including classroom and plant simulator environments. You’ll also provide hands-on coaching and mentoring to support the learning and development of trainees.

As a course coordinator, you’ll manage assigned training areas and lead group sessions ranging from 1 to 20 participants, depending on the subject matter and setting.

You’ll act as a subject matter expert in your field, with a deep understanding of relevant company standards. Your expertise will position you as a key representative for your training area across the organisation.

You will embed company values, safety principles, and operational excellence (OpEx) into all training content, lesson plans, and delivery, ensuring alignment with wider business objectives.

You’ll work closely with line managers to support the development of staff competence and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across Nuclear New Build (NNB), Nuclear Operations, and subject matter experts.

In addition, you may liaise with external contractors to coordinate and support training services when required.

Finally, you’ll actively contribute to the business plans of the Nuclear Skills Alliance and NNB, playing a key role in achieving broader organisational goals.

Who You Are

You're a technically skilled professional with a relevant qualification (HNC or higher) and experience in chemistry, technical safety, or a related discipline—ideally within power generation, though similar industries are also welcome.

You’re a confident communicator, a team player, and a natural mentor, with a talent for making complex topics clear. You bring a practical approach to problem-solving, a solid understanding of training methods, and the flexibility to deliver sessions at different locations when needed.

A teaching or training qualification and knowledge of nuclear systems are a bonus.

Applications close for this role on 15th June.
