The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC co‑located with the Emergency Department) at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer the opportunity for an experienced Urgent Care Practitioner to join our team at St Richard's Hospital, in Chichester.
We have seen demand grow in Urgent and Emergency Care and are therefore looking to expand our multi‑disciplinary team with keen, motivated and expert individuals with a breadth of knowledge in the management of minor injuries and illness. We welcome Registered Nurses, Paramedics and Physiotherapists with relevant experience.
As an autonomous practitioner within our Urgent Treatment Centre, you will work alongside other practitioners to provide clinical expertise in treating and diagnosing adult and paediatric patients presenting with minor injuries and illness, promoting positive patient experience and quality care.
We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration or HCPC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role‑specific criteria.
Main duties of the job
* Manage own caseload as Urgent Care Practitioner.
* Undertake specific delegated management responsibilities. Management of Trainee Practitioners and junior nursing colleagues within scope of practice.
* Be a credible clinical expert in the management of minor illness and injuries and undertake teaching/development as required for all nursing staff to enhance knowledge and promote quality care.
* Support service development within the UTC, in conjunction with the Urgent Treatment Centre/Emergency Department Matron, Lead ACP & Head of Nursing.
Job responsibilities
* Ability to prioritise clinical workload and responsibilities.
* Maintain flow of UTC patients in collaboration with senior nursing, medical and administrative colleagues.
* Ensure good personal time management to enable the unit to open/close promptly and all clinical staff to have appropriate refreshment breaks.
* Analyze and interpret history, presenting symptoms, physical findings and diagnostic information to develop differential diagnoses.
* Make independent treatment decisions based on the interpretation of results within own scope of practice, local and national guidance.
* Work within own scope of practice, with a view to expanding scope with appropriate teaching training and supervision.
* Perform specific procedures (e.g. suturing, foreign body removal, manipulation and relocation of fractures/dislocations) within scope of own practice, demonstrating high level of knowledge and skill.
* Prescribe within the scope of practice as a Registered Non‑Medical prescriber.
* Advise on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
Qualifications / Experience
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered Paramedic/Physio with HCPC.
* Mentorship/PSPA certification or working towards.
* Autonomous Practitioner – completed accredited minor illness/injury module and physical assessment modules at Level 6 or 7.
* Leadership and management experience.
* Ability to work under pressure and time restraints.
* Extensive experience as a Registered Nurse/Paramedic/Physio.
* Evidence of ongoing self‑development.
* Evidence of developing others.
* Currently working in UTC/ED/MIU/walk‑in centre or similar setting.
* A&E and/or other critical care course.
* Leadership and Management Course.
* Educated to Masters Level.
* Non‑Medical Prescriber (or working towards).

£49,387 to £56,515 a year per annum pro rata
