Role Purpose
You are the technical authority for the PPA business. Every system we design, install, and operate must be safe, compliant, bankable, and optimised for 25-year performance. You will define the engineering standards and system design principles that make Mangrove’s projects financeable by infrastructure funds and trusted by clients.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining engineering governance with active system design ownership. You will create reference architectures, validate commercial assumptions, approve system configurations, own design optimisation, and provide technical oversight during delivery. As we scale, you will build the engineering and design capability to support 50+ MWp annual deployment while maintaining technical excellence.
Key AccountabilitiesTechnical Standards & Governance
• Define and own engineering standards for solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, and grid connection. Standards must satisfy bankability requirements (technical due diligence, lender’s engineer reviews) while enabling delivery efficiency.
• Approve system designs and major technical decisions. Act as final escalation point for technical risk.
System Design & Architecture
• Develop reference designs for typical deployment scenarios (logistics warehouses, industrial facilities, multi-site clusters).
• Own system layout design, electrical design, and integration architecture across solar, BESS, EV, and grid connection.
• Optimise designs for self-consumption (94.5% target), performance ratio, and long-term asset value.
• Drive standardisation to support scale, bankability and repeatability.
Commercial & Financial Support
• Validate technical assumptions in commercial models—generation forecasts, degradation rates, O&M costs, equipment lifespans.
• Ensure what is sold is technically deliverable and financeable. Balance capex optimisation with long-term asset performance.
Technology Roadmap
• Monitor technology evolution (perovskite-silicon tandems, long-duration storage, V2G). Advise on adoption timing.
• Ensure Mangrove’s platform remains technology-agnostic and future-ready.
Delivery Oversight & Structural Assessment
• Provide technical oversight during construction and commissioning. Sign off on system performance before operational handover.
• Validate roof loading capacity for installations. Qualify structural engineering partners. Manage interface with building owners on structural requirements.
Success Metrics (Year 1)
• Published engineering and design standards accepted by capital partners
• All projects pass technical due diligence on first submission
• Commissioned systems achieving >95% of modelled generation
• Reference designs documented for 3+ deployment archetypes
• Design turnaround time supporting commercial pipeline velocity
Requirements
• 10+ years in solar PV, battery storage, or power systems engineering with significant design responsibility
• Deep understanding of UK grid connection requirements (G98, G99, DNO processes)
• Experience with bankability processes—technical due diligence, lender’s engineer requirements
• Proven system design capability across solar, storage, and/or EV infrastructure
• Commercial awareness: ability to translate technical and design constraints into financial impact
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent (preferred)
• Technically rigorous, design-oriented and hands-on
