There is a point in every project where the rhetoric falls away.
What remains is judgement.
Detail.
Coordination.
Negotiation.
Programme.
Buildability.
Pressure.
This is where some architects become most valuable.
Not the ones chasing images.
The ones who understand how architecture holds its quality when the project gets complicated.
Grõ Careers is working with a highly regarded London studio looking to hire architects from recently qualified level through to Project / Senior Architect.
This is an opportunity for architects who want to be closer to the substance of practice - the layers beneath the drawings, the logic behind the details, the conversations that determine whether a project merely looks resolved or is resolved.
Who this will speak to
Architects with strong Stage 3-5 experience.
Architects who enjoy coordination as much as composition.
Architects who can move between consultants, packages, façades, interiors, constraints, and technical risk without losing the original intent.
If you love architecture when it becomes real, this will make sense to you.
The work
The studio has a strong active + pipeline across workplace, hospitality, housing, education, retrofit and re-use. Typical project values range from £40 million to £300 million.
A meaningful portion of the workload sits within existing buildings, which brings the kind of complexity many architects actively seek out: layered constraints, technical compromise, careful intervention, and the need for decisions that are both intelligent and buildable.
This is not a studio looking for spectators.
It is looking for architects who want to contribute with precision.
The role
Depending on level, you will be trusted to do more of the following:
* drive technical packages and consultant coordination
* work through details, interfaces and delivery challenges
* contribute to the architecture at the point where projects are won or lost
* build confidence with clients, consultants and wider teams
* step further into ownership, leadership and project-running responsibility on award-winning projects
For more experienced hires, there is clear scope to mentor, lead, and take a stronger hand in shaping how projects move forward.
What they are looking for
Not a stylistic type.
Not pure concept.
They are interested in architects who can demonstrate:
* strong UK experience across RIBA Stages 3-5
* technical confidence and delivery intelligence
* credibility in front of consultants and project teams
* the ability to talk clearly about challenges, decisions and solutions
* experience in sectors such as workplace, education, hospitality, housing, mixed-use or technically demanding retrofit / re-use
A focused mind helps too - whether your interest sits in façades, interiors, sustainability, delivery, digital workflows, or simply the mechanics of how buildings come together.
Why this is a strong move
Because the best studios do not separate design quality from technical quality.
They understand that one relies on the other.
This is a practice with real standards, strong mentoring, meaningful progression, and a culture that still believes architecture is a collective discipline - ambitious and built on trust.
Salary: circa £42,000-£57,000, depending on level and experience.
Alongside hybrid working, profit share, strong development support, and a studio environment with substance.
