Job Description

Specialist Support Assistant (SEMH) – Year 3

Bispham Start Date: September 2026 Pay: £14.25 per hour

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming primary school in Bispham to recruit a Specialist Support Assistant to start in September.

This role involves supporting a Year 3 pupil group with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, where challenging behaviour is present. The school is looking for a resilient, empathetic, and proactive individual who can build positive relationships and provide consistent support.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support within a Year 3 classroom
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support plans
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO
  • Encourage emotional regulation, engagement, and positive learning behaviours
  • Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour
  • Be calm, patient, and confident managing behaviours positively
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Be adaptable and able to respond to changing classroom needs
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children’s development
  • Previous school or support work experience is desirable
