Senior Associate | Employment | 12 Month FTC | Birmingham
BCL Legal are working with a highly regarded international law firm seeking an experienced Employment Solicitor to join its Birmingham office as a Senior Associate on a 12 month fixed term contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a nationally recognised Employment team advising a diverse employer client base on a broad range of complex and high-value employment matters.
The Role:
* Advise employer clients ranging from major corporates and public sector bodies to high-growth businesses and international organisations on a full spectrum of employment law issues.
* Provide strategic and practical advice to clients on day-to-day and complex employment law matters.
* Draft and review employment-related documentation including service agreements, handbooks, consultancy agreements and secondment arrangements.
* Advise on legislative developments and the practical impact of changes in employment law.
* Handle TUPE matters including transactional support, consultation exercises and post-transfer issues.
* Advise on redundancy programmes, restructures and wider workforce change projects.
* Provide corporate support on mergers, acquisitions and business reorganisations.
* Deliver transactional support to commercial and real estate teams.
* Manage Employment Tribunal and civil court litigation including discrimination, whistleblowing and restrictive covenant disputes.
* Advise on employee relations matters including grievances, disciplinaries, family friendly rights, agency workers and working time issues.
* Support clients on trade union matters and industrial relations disputes.
* Conduct and advise on workplace investigations.
* Advise on employment-related data protection matters including DSARs and privacy notices.
* Deliver training sessions, seminars and client briefings.
* Contribute to business development, networking and profile-raising initiatives.
Candidate Requirements:
* Qualified Solicitor with 4‑6 years' PQE in employment law.
* Strong technical knowledge across contentious and non‑contentious employment matters.
* Experience gained within a reputable private practice employment team.
* Experience advising employer clients on strategic and operational HR matters.
* Strong litigation experience including Employment Tribunal proceedings.
* Excellent drafting, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence in client‑facing situations.
* Commercially aware and able to deliver pragmatic, business‑focused advice.
* Highly organised with the ability to manage a busy and varied caseload.
* Strong teamworking skills with the ability to build effective internal and external relationships.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience supporting international clients with UK employment matters.
* Exposure to sectors such as technology, manufacturing, financial services, construction or public sector.
* Previous involvement in business development and client training initiatives.
* Experience writing technical articles or delivering seminars.
