Contracts Manager – Groundworks (South of England / UK Travel)
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee groundworks projects across the South of England, with flexibility to travel UK-wide.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee multiple groundworks projects from pre-start to final handover.
Ensure works are delivered on programme, to specification, and within budget.
Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and compliance.
Provide leadership and support to Site Managers, Engineers, and Supervisors.
Coordinate plant, labour, and materials effectively across projects.
Commercial Oversight
Collaborate with the commercial team on cost control and valuations.
Monitor project budgets, margins, and variations.
Identify and manage risks and opportunities.
Support procurement and subcontractor management.
Health & Safety
Ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and policies.
Promote a strong safety culture across all sites.
Review RAMS and ensure safe systems of work are implemented.
Liaise with clients and HSE as required.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Act as the main point of contact for clients on allocated projects.
Attend progress meetings and represent projects professionally.
Maintain and develop strong client relationships to secure repeat business.
Planning & Programming
Review and manage construction programmes.
Identify potential delays and implement mitigation strategies.
Support pre-construction planning and tender handovers.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Contracts Manager within groundworks or civil engineering.
Strong knowledge of residential groundworks (roads & sewers, drainage, foundations, externals).
Solid commercial understanding and cost control experience.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
SMSTS
CSCS (Black or Gold Card)
First Aid at Work
Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree desirable)
