About us

An opportunity has arisen to join Warrington’s Domestic Abuse Hub in a new role as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA), specialising in Child to Parent Abuse (CPA) involving adult children. This is an exciting time to join the expanding team and add to the outstanding work the DA Hub delivers across Warrington. This post will be based under the IDVA Team and will work closely with the Warrington’s Child to Parent Abuse Service.

The role

This specialist role focuses on supporting parents/caregivers who are experiencing domestic abuse from their adult children. You will provide trauma-informed, therapeutic support and advocacy to parents, navigate complex family dynamics, reduce risk and harm, and support parents/caregivers access appropriate services.

As an IDVA, you will manage a caseload of adult CPA cases, deliver 1-2-1 support via telephone, face to face, across various settings in Warrington, represent the victims voice at multiagency meetings, attend court, complete regular DASH risk assessments and develop holistic safety plans to strengthen safety, manage risk and support change.

Due to the complexities of Adult Child to Parent Abuse the role is unique and requires a dedicated, compassionate candidate.

You will work closely with Police, Adult Social Care, Mental Health Services, Housing, and other key partners to develop coordinated responses and promote awareness and contribute to training sessions of Adult Child to Parent Abuse, across Warrington to improve understanding and strengthen practice.

What's needed?

1. Experience supporting families affected by domestic abuse.
2. Understanding of CPA, including dynamics involving adult children.
3. Experience working with parents/carers in crisis, using trauma-informed approaches.
4. Strong safeguarding knowledge and ability to follow procedures effectively.
5. Ability to deliver holistic safety planning and risk assessments.
6. Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
7. Understanding of mental health, substance misuse, and neurodiversity and how they relate to CPA.
