Applications are invited from experienced Anatomical Pathology Technicians (APT) or trainee Anatomical Pathology Technicians to join our team.
You must have or be willing to work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology with experience as an Anatomical Pathology Technician, or Mortuary/Laboratory Assistant working within a team in an NHS Cellular Pathology Laboratory.
The applicant must have experience of working in a Cellular Pathology / Mortuary service and have a good understanding of the principles of current practice in this area of expertise.
The applicant will:
1. Be responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of NHS Forth Valley mortuary, liaising with relatives, Procurators Fiscal, Police and other hospital staff.
2. Participate in the technical work of the Post Mortem room and Mortuary service throughout Forth Valley.
3. Assist in conducting post-mortem examinations including evisceration, taking and recording samples for laboratory analysis and weighing major organs.
4. Be responsible for the receipt, record, storage and release deceased patients. This will involve liaising with funeral directors, bereaved relatives, police, Procurator Fiscals, nursing staff, medical staff, laboratory staff and Pathologists.
5. Participate in an on-call out of hours service.
The post will be based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The Mortuary provides support to the acute hospital and also to the Community and Fiscal service.
