About the Role

We are seeking a Deputy Buildings & Technical Manager to play a key role within the venue’s management team. Supporting the Buildings & Technical Manager, you will help lead the technical function, ensuring the smooth delivery of all productions, events, and building operations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining technical delivery with team management, maintenance oversight, and health & safety compliance. You will contribute to maintaining high artistic standards while ensuring a safe, efficient, and well‑maintained environment for performers, staff, and audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Operations

* Act as a key point of contact for visiting companies and artists, ensuring all technical requirements are delivered to a high standard
* Support day‑to‑day management of the technical department, including scheduling, rota planning, and budget monitoring
* Oversee technical delivery across lighting, sound, AV, staging, and rigging
* Provide hands‑on technical support during performances and events where required
* Assist with production settlements, including technical recharges
* Deputise for the Buildings & Technical Manager when required, including involvement in in‑house productions and major seasonal events

Building & Maintenance

* Support delivery of a proactive Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme
* Assist in ensuring compliance with statutory regulations (e.g. lifting equipment, electrical safety, fire safety, water hygiene)
* Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and relevant authorities
* Support delivery of maintenance and capital projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget
* Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections, and compliance
* Supervise and support a team of technical staff and casual crew
* Assist with recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development planning
* Support training and skills development across the department
* Promote a positive, inclusive, and high‑performing team culture

Health & Safety & Compliance

* Promote and implement health & safety policies and best practices
* Prepare and review risk assessments and method statements
* Contribute to health & safety meetings and wider compliance initiatives
* Support emergency planning and incident response
* Ensure safe systems of work are followed by all staff and visiting companies

About You

You are a proactive and detail‑oriented technical professional with a passion for live events and theatre. Comfortable working both strategically and hands‑on, you bring strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to team management.

You thrive in a fast‑paced environment, balancing technical delivery, operational oversight, and safety compliance, while maintaining high standards of service and production quality.

Experience Required

* At least 2 years’ experience in a senior technical or technical management role
* Proven experience leading and developing teams
* Strong technical knowledge across lighting, sound, staging, and rigging
* Experience managing health & safety processes and compliance
* Understanding of building maintenance within a live events or venue environment
* Ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

* IPAF, PASMA, or Working at Height certification
* Experience managing refurbishment or capital projects
* Knowledge of counterweight flying systems
* Familiarity with industry‑standard lighting, sound, and AV systems
* Awareness of sustainability practices within venue operations

Additional Information
