Closing Date: 25 July 2025 The Role The purpose of this Postdoctoral Research Role in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University is to conduct research on the project ‘War and geos : the environmental legacies of militarism’. The project was awarded as a European Research Council Starting Grant and is now funded by UKRI Horizon Europe (project number: EP/X042642/1). Led by Dr Mark Griffiths, ‘War and geos ’ is a 5-year, interdisciplinary study into the long-term effects of “precision” munitions used in recent military operations in Gaza and Iraq. The role involves tracing and mapping weapons supply chains to produce a body of data for inquiry into munitions residues and environmental effects. The post provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to work with leading researchers in political geography and to develop an independent research profile.
