Do you have an enquiring mind, excellent communications skills and a positive team work ethic? Are you resilient and composed when working under pressure with competing demands? If so, Kent County Council is recruiting a Coroner’s Investigation Officer for the Kent & Medway Coroner Service Team.
Responsibilities
* Work under judicial direction of the Coroner, within statutory frameworks, national & local policy and procedural guidelines to provide sufficient evidence for coroners to fulfil their judicial function.
* Use initiative to make all relevant enquiries into the circumstances surrounding deaths of unknown cause, violent death, and deaths in state detention.
* Apply methodical questioning, investigative procedures and fundamental medical knowledge to gather, evaluate and synthesize information to support the coroner.
* Conduct family liaison, communicating with bereaved people in a calm, ethical and empathic manner, keeping them informed throughout the process.
* Travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner to attend mortuaries for identifications and forensic post‑mortems.
* Work closely with a team in an office‑based setting in Maidstone (0900‑1700, Monday‑Friday).
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in a coroner's office or in nursing, paramedicine, biomedical, or another public‑facing role.
* Strong investigative and analytical skills with familiarity of statutory and procedural requirements.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills and a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the role.
Workplace Information
This post is office based in Maidstone and is customer‑facing. The role requires regular travel and adherence to statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.
