UNQUALIFIED BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT MENTOR – SEN General - Bath / Trowbridge

Are You Ready to Turn Your Life Experience into Something Meaningful?

We’re seeking resilient, proactive, and caring individuals to join our team as Behaviour Support Mentors, working closely with children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in SEN General settings. Many of the students you’ll support may require additional personal care and guidance to help them succeed both in education and in life.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to create positive change every day — supporting students to build confidence, form healthy relationships, and reconnect with learning in nurturing, inclusive environments where every achievement is valued, no matter how small.

Who Is This Role Ideal For?

People from a wide range of backgrounds bring valuable skills and perspectives that truly benefit young people in SEN General environments. This role is particularly well suited to individuals with experience or studies in Psychology, Criminology, Sports, or behaviour-related fields, as well as those with practical mentoring or support experience.

You may be:

A Sports Coach – using teamwork, routine, and motivation to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.
A Psychology or Criminology Graduate – keen to apply your understanding of behaviour, development, and social influences in a practical, rewarding setting.
A Social Worker or Support Worker – experienced in SEN, behaviour support, or trauma-informed approaches.
️ Ex-Military Personnel – offering consistency, leadership, and a calm, steady presence.
‍ A Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant, or Mentor – with hands-on experience supporting children and young people in schools, communities, or care environments.

If you’re passionate about behaviour, wellbeing, and helping young people with additional needs achieve their potential, we’d love to hear from you.

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, You Will:

✅ Deliver 1:1 and small group support to students with behavioural, emotional, or social needs, including those within SEN General provisions.
✅ Provide personal care support when required, always maintaining dignity, comfort, and wellbeing.
✅ Develop strong, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, respected, and understood.
✅ Manage and de-escalate challenging situations with empathy, patience, and confidence.
✅ Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to follow individual behaviour and support plans.
✅ Act as a consistent, positive role model, offering structure and reassurance throughout the school day.

What We’re Looking For:

Resilience, empathy, and a sense of humour — essential qualities when supporting young people with complex needs.
️ Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to adapt to different individuals.
A calm, fair, and patient approach to behaviour management and personal care.
Backgrounds or studies in Psychology, Criminology, Sports, Education, or related fields are highly valued.
A valid DBS check, or willingness to apply for one prior to starting.

What We Offer in Return:

A welcoming, supportive team culture where your contribution is genuinely valued.
Ongoing CPD, training, and development focused on SEN, behaviour support, and personal care.
A varied and rewarding role where no two days are ever the same.
Dedicated support from an experienced consultant who will help you find the right SEN General placement and thrive in your role.

✨ If you believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed — regardless of the challenges they face — and you’re ready to make a meaningful difference using your life experience, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
