An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Risk & Controls Manager to join our highly respected Risk, Assurance and Remediation team with our Life Division. Reporting to the Head of Risk (Life), this role will support the Corporate Pensions Solutions Managing Director, working closely with senior leadership teams in M&G Life and wider risk function.
Key Responsibilities for this role:
Risk Managers in M&G Life are responsible for ensuring that business areas’ operational risk management practices are conducted in line with the relevant M&G policies, frameworks and standards. They act as first point of contact for the Business, Non-Financial Risk, Compliance and Audit in relation to risk and control matters for their respective Business Area/s and are instrumental in developing a risk-based decision making culture. Responsibilities will include:
1. Using your non-financial risk knowledge and expertise to support the Managing Director/s to roll out and maintain risk management practices in line with M&G’s Operational Risk Framework.
2. Lead the coordination of completion of change risk assessments for significant projects and programmes to ensure controlled / effective decision making.
3. Supporting business areas leads to identify and assess key risks, plan appropriate risk treatment paths and identify and implement key controls.
4. Monitor risk and control environment metrics and other indicators, e.g. Issues, Notifiable Events, KRIs etc.
5. Establish and chair local governance forum for the supported Business Area/s. Review and enhance risk forum papers to ensure that Managing Directors have an up to date risk profile which facilitates productive risk based discussions. Provide inputs or escalations to Life and PAC risk reporting team as required.
6. Identifying and assessing emerging risks proactively with the relevant Business Area, e.g. through Process or Change impact analysis, root cause analysis of issues/events.
7. Managing or supporting thematic risk, control or policy adherence reviews as required.
8. Ensuring RCSA owners (typically Managing Directors and their management teams) regularly self-assess top risks impacting the business area and accountable for delivering high quality RCSA submissions, which meet organisational requirements and timescales.
9. Working in collaboration with stakeholders across M&G’s three lines of defence, to support a robust control environment both within Life and any material third parties.
10. Drive / lead projects and team improvement initiatives.
11. Leading, support and coach colleagues to ensure your team provides and maintains an excellent risk SME service to all stakeholders. This will include line management of 1-2 risk analysts.
12. To advise in the design, development and deployment of risk appetite and supporting key risk indicators, metrics and monitoring to assess and monitor the risk profile
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
13. At least 10 years experience working in regulated financial services organisations, in a Line 1 or 2 role.
14. Experience working within a Bulk Purchase Annuity environment
15. Experience of implementing risk frameworks and methodologies
16. Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
17. Collaborative nature, with ability to work effectively with the colleagues in Risk, Operations and other key functions within M&G Life and across the Group.
18. Pro-active approach to problem solving, understanding root causes, and driving continuous improvement
19. Strong analytical mind and an eye for detail
20. Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team player;
21. Working knowledge of Life and pensions products, markets and competitors (Advantageous)
22. Working knowledge of M&G systems, services and distribution methods (Preferred)
This role will have a blended approach between working from home and our office in Stirling (2-3 days).
