Job Description
The role of an Automation and Control Engineer at our Chapeltown (Sheffield) site is to act as our site lead overseeing all industrial control systems (ICS). These systems operate, automate, and regulate manufacturing processes to ensure all equipment and machinery are in good working order, minimizing production downtime across our paint and sealant manufacturing operations.
This position is ideal for someone with either a degree in Engineering or significant technical, practical experience within engineering and maintenance.

Responsibilities
* Oversee programming, servicing, fault-finding, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting activities across programmable logic controllers (PLC), automated systems, software, HMIs, electrical controls, switchgear, and distribution systems.
* Serve as the site technical expert concerning ICS systems used on site.
* Manage the service contract with the preferred ICS vendor.
* Create and manage control system documentation and reference materials for site operations and technical support personnel.
* Work with the Reliability Engineering team as the lead for the site ICS obsolescence program, identifying critical plant components and areas for investment.
* Develop and implement plans to modify current programs and configurations to optimize capability and performance, and recommend improvements for plant, equipment, and practices.
* Specify ICS equipment, obtain cost estimates, generate bills of materials, and expedite purchasing and fabrication of electrical controls equipment, aligned with Sherwin-Williams' preferred equipment.
* Support the development and implementation of projects that drive continuous improvement.
* Manage the site electrical schematics, including specifications and program backups.
Qualifications
* Either a degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering/maintenance experience.
* Exposure to industrial control systems and methodologies, including PLC and SCADA systems.
* Team player with effective interpersonal skills, capable of working well in multidisciplinary teams to solve problems and deliver improvements.
* Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement techniques.
* Knowledge, effective use, and development of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems.
* ATEX/DSEAR knowledge/experience is advantageous.
Required skills include proven experience with Rockwell Automation and Siemens platforms, PLC programming (Allen-Bradley and Siemens), SCADA development using Ignition and InTouch, understanding of industrial networks (DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus), ability to interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs, and experience in commissioning and site support.
Preferred qualifications include certifications in Continuous Improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, and Root Cause Analysis, knowledge of industry standards (ISA, IEC, PIP), Process Safety Management related to control & automation, and awareness of SEVESO/COMAH regulations.
