About the opportunity
To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations, we are looking for a Senior Consultant with experience in flood risk management to join our multi-disciplinary Water Environment team based in Birmingham. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.
We provide strategic, feasibility and design advice and compliance services within energy, carbon, water, climate change and resource management sectors. Our UK Water Environment team is over 450 strong delivering sustainable, resilient solutions to a diverse portfolio of clients including the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, utility companies, highways agencies, national rail companies and airports.
Job Responsibilities
As a lead member of a growing team, you will be responsible for delivering and overseeing a variety of projects such as:
1. Flood Risk Assessments for nationally important infrastructure projects
2. Technical design for flood risk management projects
3. Business cases for flood risk management schemes
4. Surface Water Management Plans
5. Climate change resilience and adaptation plans
In addition to technical project delivery, your key responsibilities would include:
6. Coordination of resources and line management of team members
7. Training and mentoring of junior members of the team
8. Maintaining and developing strong internal and external client relationships
9. Providing high quality advice for a variety of infrastructure projects
10. Quality Assurance on project deliverables
11. Working with the wider UK Water Environment team
12. Collaborating with other areas of the business on multi-disciplinary projects
13. Business development, input to bids and proposals
Here's What You'll Need:
14. Relevant Honours Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Physical Geography or Environmental Science
15. Chartered through ICE or CIWEM
16. Excellent knowledge and experience of planning policy and infrastructure design requirements relating to flood risk management, and in particular river and/or drainage engineering
17. Experience in the development and costing of options to manage flood risk, including resistance and resilience measures
18. Detailed knowledge in the calculation of economic flood damages and benefits
19. Experience in business case preparation and the application of five case business model for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Schemes
20. Ability to develop, price and agree scope of services
21. Excellent report writing and presentation skills
Ideally, you will also have:
22. Relationships with the relevant statutory bodies e.g. Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and water and sewerage companies.
23. Understanding of Flood Estimation Handbook techniques and 1D-2D hydraulic modelling software (e.g. Flood Mapper, TUFLOW, InfoWorks etc.)
24. Application of GIS software such as MapInfo, ArcGIS and QGIS
