Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Dietitian with experience of paediatrics to join the paediatric team within Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust the post is at Band 7 for 37.5 hours per week to cover maternity leave for 11 months. There may also be an opportunity to take on a permanent paediatric role at band 7 due to a retirement in 2026. The team comprises of 5 other Paediatric Dietitians and strong administrative support. We are a very supportive team, have regular team meetings and CPD sessions/opportunities and have good links with surrounding Trusts and paediatric teams.

This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate paediatric skills, work with MDT colleagues in a variety of settings and develop clinical and leadership skills. The post holder will cover the neonatal unit, paediatric ward and general out-patient clinics and the opportunity to develop clinical skills in areas such as Home enteral feeding.

Main duties of the job

1. To be an autonomous practitioner and act as a source of clinical expertise in the areas of paediatric and neonatal care.
2. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing high quality, evidence based dietetic service to a complex case load of patients on the paediatrics and neonatal unit

·To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of paediatric inpatients and outpatients, and provide cover for other specialist dietitians on an occasional basis

3. As one of the paediatric Dietitians, working closely with the Paediatric Dietetic Team Lead and Nutrition and Dietetic Service Manager to plan, provide and evaluate the paediatric dietetic service.
4. To support the clinical and professional development of junior Dietitians, Dietetic support worker and student dietitians.
5. To work as part of the paediatric multidisciplinary team training other healthcare professionals and contributing to the development of the service

Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. An appropriate degree recognised for registration with HPC
7. Registered with HPC
8. Post graduate specialist training in paediatric dietetics [equating to a module of masters degree]

Desirable criteria

9. British Dietetic Association Member
10. Paediatric BDA Group member

Skills and experience

Essential criteria

11. Previous general clinical experience and detailed knowledge of paediatrics
12. Knowledge of nutritional needs and nutritional assessment of hospital in-patients
13. Skilled in calculating nutritional requirements on paediatrics
14. Skilled in assessment for enteral feeding, enteral feeding products, equipment and regimens.
15. Accurate anthropometric skills - specific to paeds
16. Competent user of IT equipment & basic software (email, word processing, data input etc)

Desirable criteria

17. Ability to travel to other sites on occasion
18. demonstrates advanced communication skills training/skills
19. experience of neonatal dietetics including TPN
20. Experience of working with children with eating disorders
