Role Overview
As a Senior Utilities Surveyor, you will play a leading role in the successful delivery of PAS128-compliant utility surveying projects across a variety of environments, including infrastructure, rail and complex underground locations. You will combine hands-on surveying expertise with project coordination, technical oversight and mentoring responsibilities, ensuring surveys are delivered safely, accurately and efficiently.
This position is suited to an experienced utilities surveyor who is confident taking ownership on site, making decisions around methodology, safety and quality, and managing projects through from mobilisation to final delivery. You will work with modern survey technology as part of a collaborative and well-established team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead PAS128-compliant utility surveys from mobilisation through to project completion and handover.
* Take responsibility on site for survey quality, safety procedures and overall project delivery.
* Detect and map underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment and ground penetrating radar (GPR).
* Carry out total station and GNSS observations where required.
* Process survey data using AutoCAD, IQMaps, Geolitix and other relevant software.
* Manage and maintain survey data in line with company standards and client requirements.
* Work alongside Survey Leads and project teams to determine the most effective survey methodologies and technologies.
* Coordinate effectively with clients, subcontractors and other site personnel.
* Support and mentor junior surveyors, providing guidance, technical support and constructive feedback.
* Maintain flexibility to support occasional night work, travel and working away from home where project requirements demand.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience delivering PAS128-compliant utilities surveys.
* Strong practical experience using GPR, electromagnetic locating equipment and TPS/GNSS technology.
* Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and survey data processing workflows.
* Ability to take ownership of projects and work independently on site.
* Experience supporting, mentoring or supervising junior surveyors.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple live projects and priorities.
* Flexible approach to working hours and travel requirements.
* Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.
