Assistant Ranger Apprentice - Level 2You will be working outdoors in all weathers as part of our ranger teams, supporting our strategy to restore a healthy, beautiful, natural environment. Your role will be working to protect and improve the health and wildlife richness of our countryside, preserving all the benefits we get from it and helping our visitors to experience and get closer to conservation of our special outdoor places. Your training will be delivered via a combination of mandatory week long college blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. There may also be opportunities to travel to other National Trust locations with some overnight stays to expand your learning and experience. The Holnicote Estate is one of the largest properties that is owned and managed by the National Trust. Situated within Exmoor National Park it covers an area of approximately 20sq miles and includes some of the most iconic landscape and important wildlife habitats in the UK such as the Dunkery & Horner Woods National Nature Reserve, one of the largest terrestrial NNR's in England. There is some incredibly special wildlife on the estate including 17 of the 18 UK Bat species, one of the UK’s rarest butterflies, the Heath fritillary, and Holnicote is home to colonies of both water voles and beavers. As well as the amazing landscape, wildlife and habitats Holnicote has some wonderful buildings and historical heritage including 170 cottages and 14 farms, many of which date from the 14th and 15th century.Working alongside your mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship, you will develop the skills & knowledge relevant to this apprenticeship standard. (Countryside worker level 2) You’ll attend, and prepare for, regular review meetings with your training provider, and be accountable for your own progression.
