What You’ll Do
* Full participation in the thoracic surgery service and provision of expertise and support to other specialists as required.
* Operating lists (VATS expertise essential).
* MDT meetings.
* Outpatient clinics (including peripheral clinics).
* Ward rounds.
* Training and research.
* Administration and leadership.
What We’re Looking For
* Someone who can work flexibly within a team.
* Proficient in minimally invasive surgical technique including anatomical lung resection.
* Experience managing thoracic trauma (rib fixation).

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
You will be expected to work flexibly within a group job plan to provide a 6‑day work week and provide out of hours consultant cover on a 1:6 rota. You will cover the absence of colleagues whilst they are on annual leave or study leave to provide seamless 24/7 service provision.
Additional Information
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
Desirable Criteria
* Higher research degree (MD/PhD).
* Previous experience at consultant level in thoracic surgery.
Aptitudes and Skills
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff.
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
* Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
* Demonstrate the ability to be calm, compassionate, and able to respond efficiently to various circumstances, which may change rapidly.
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
