We’re looking for an observability‑focused Associate Site Reliability Engineer to join our Engineering Excellence team. Our mission is to increase efficiency and agility across engineering teams, enabling them to mobilise quickly and deliver quality, secure, right‑first‑time features for our customers at reduced costs. We also aim to enable operations teams to proactively monitor and quickly report across critical systems.
The Associate SRE reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with observability engineers to implement monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities across our systems. The role involves strong collaboration with others—learning from existing great engineering work, collaborating to create it, and supporting engineers to implement observability.
This role will initially focus almost exclusively on development in New Relic, configuration and support, and over time evolve to include the wider goals of the team.
Your Role
 * Assist in implementing observability features such as dashboards, alerts, logs, traces, and metrics using tools like New Relic
 * Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (SRE, DevOps, Business units) to understand monitoring requirements and support delivery of observability solutions
 * Support efforts to define and maintain observability‑as‑code (dashboards, alerts, tags, notification channels)
 * Help instrument applications and infrastructure using standards such as OpenTelemetry
 * Participate in troubleshooting and incident analysis to improve system monitoring and response capabilities
 * Learn and apply best practices in CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and DevOps tooling
 * Support initiatives to automate and standardise observability across environments
 * Take part in team meetings, design discussions, and contribute ideas for improving observability and engineering processes
 * Document observability configurations, blueprints, processes, and standards for internal use
What You’ll Need
 * Familiarity with observability concepts (monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting)
 * Exposure to New Relic as an observability tool
 * Understanding of CI/CD tools and basic DevOps workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions)
 * Basic scripting or programming experience (e.g., Python, Bash, JavaScript or similar)
 * Exposure to cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure)
 * Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or similar instrumentation frameworks
 * Understanding of distributed systems or microservices architecture
 * Willingness to learn and take on new challenges in a fast‑paced environment
 * Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Benefits
 * Discretionary company bonus
 * Company pension up to 7% matched
 * 15% colleague discount in store and online
 * Free access to wellbeing services such as Wagestream, 24/7 virtual GP, counselling, health and dental cash plans and a 24/7 employee assistance helpline, alongside discounts across a range of services and activities
 * Asda Allies Inclusion Networks – ensuring everybody is included and differences are celebrated
 * Excellent parental leave policies, including maternity & adoption leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, neonatal care leave, and support for those doing fertility treatments
 * Hybrid working model with a minimum of 3 days a week in one of our Home Offices, with potential additional requirements for certain areas
