1. We are currently looking for an experienced Specialist to play a key role working within the fire and safety team, carrying out complex examinations of Lifesaving products, giving pragmatic advice to colleagues and clients and also to mentor less experienced colleagues.

The role
4. Type Approval of Lifesaving products to various statutory codes, international standards, and rules in a consistent and timely manner.
5. Assistance and coordination of new rules and regulations relating to various LSA equipment.
6. Representation of LR and IACS at various technical committee meetings and forums which could include IMO MSC and SSE sub-committees.
7. Conducting occasional site visits at various shipyards, client sites, testing laboratories, or production facilities as required to successfully complete projects.
8. Contributing expert knowledge and experience of LSA equipment and regulatory framework to risk-based project teams to ensure project outcomes are met.
9. Assisting the business in the bid and win process for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements for a range of projects.
10. Management and oversight of project schedules, financial tracking, contract risk management procedures and issues plus associated project documentation and supporting compliance with all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
11. Attendance at and preparation of reports as required for audits that are conducted by external bodies.
12. Providing visible, pro-active HS&E leadership, ensuring that all LR Corporate and local HS&E policies and processes are followed, including any necessary client-specific requirements, in particular, ensuring that stated requirements for incident reporting, task risk assessment and safe methods of work are followed.

What you bring
14. 7-10 years’ experience working in a relevant role covering design, testing and or certification of life saving appliances
15. Demonstrable experience of the IMO Life Saving Appliances Code requirements and an in -depth knowledge of LSA products including certification and testing requirements.
16. In depth knowledge of Maritime Safety Legislation for a variety of ship types.
17. Broad knowledge of SOLAS, other international regulations (e. g. LSA Code, ISO Standards, UL Standards etc,).
18. Basic project management techniques are desirable.
19. A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme).
20. Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
21. Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
22. Exceptional communication skills, including technical report writing, having the ability to adapt and work to tight deadlines .
23. Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
24. Good general appreciation Marine & Offshore industry standards and practices.
25. Knowledge of Classification / Certification / Verification is desirable.
