We're delighted to be supporting Co-op Group with the recruitment of an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their finance team in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a nationally recognised organisation in a dynamic environment. You'll play a key role in supporting month-end processes, maintaining strong financial controls, and providing accurate and insightful reporting. While this is an initial 3-month temporary contract, there's a strong possibility for the right person to transition into a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
Review accounting transactions and accurately calculate accruals and prepayments.
Ensure month-end processes are completed on time and to a high standard.
Build strong relationships with budget holders, confidently challenging and validating financial information.
Investigate and resolve variances, ensuring all differences are explained or corrected.
Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations to identify and address emerging issues.
Produce high-quality management accounts packs and supporting schedules.
Maintain strong financial processes and documentation to ensure compliance and control.
Provide timely responses to finance queries and support wider finance activities including budgeting and project work.
Actively engage in personal development to enhance capability and contribution.
About You:
Proven experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role.
Strong understanding of accruals, prepayments, and period-end processes.
Confident working with budget holders and stakeholders at various levels.
Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
Experience producing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
Proficient in Excel and accounting systems.
Proactive, adaptable, and a strong team player.
