RPS is seeking a motivated Water Utilities Technician to join our Wastewater Network Team. This role is ideal for candidates with a utilities background or experience in mechanical, electrical, or telecommunications disciplines who are keen to expand their skills in the wastewater sector. You will work alongside an experienced Senior Technician, surveying wastewater assets, collecting samples, and supporting the installation and maintenance of wastewater flow monitoring equipment for our client, Scottish Water.
About The Team
RPS Water Consulting Scotland is a team of Engineers, Modellers, and Site Based Operations Teams providing Asset Survey and Operational Support to our Water Industry clients.
Our Stepps & Grangemouth team carry out wastewater network activities such as flow monitoring, asset surveys and data monitoring equipment installations, helping gather critical operational data to improve model accuracy and better understand network performance.
About You
As a key member of the Wastewater Operations business, your role as Wastewater Technician is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our Water Industry clients. You will be working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of water quality experts on a range of capital delivery projects.
The equipment and processes we use collect data from the wastewater network to help determine when overflows are operating and when flooding is likely to occur. These overflows are designed to function during periods of heavy rainfall to prevent the sewer network from flooding homes, streets, and communities.
In addition to monitoring sewer events, your role will involve carrying out asset surveys to assess the condition and performance of the network’s infrastructure. You will also deploy flow-monitoring equipment to measure network capacity and identify potential issues, ensuring accurate data collection to support proactive maintenance and operational decisions.
Your Responsibilities
* Work as part of a 2–3 person team alongside an experienced Senior Technician. Survey wastewater assets, including manholes, CSOs, and pumping stations.
* Collect samples on behalf of Scottish Water, adhering to all safety and quality standards.
* Complete accurate records, annotate plans, and submit reports using mobile data capture applications. Support the team with installation, commissioning, and maintenance of monitoring equipment as required.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
* Strong utilities background and willingness to learn new skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to complete paperwork accurately and annotate plans. Comfortable working in confined spaces.
* Experience using drills and taking precise measurements.
* Ideally, some prior experience in a wastewater-related role.
* Familiarity with phone applications for data capture.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous record-keeping. Demonstrable reliability, flexibility, and a strong team ethic.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence

This role may involve:
* Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers.
* Working in all weather conditions.
* You may be required to work in confined spaces and on highways.
* Daily/weekly checks of equipment & Vehicles.
* Please note mandatory drugs and alcohol tests are undertaken for this role and a DBS check will be undertaken.
