Job Title: Senior Pastoral Support Worker
Location: Glebedale School, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 3AY
Salary: £23,000 to £28,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
Start Date: February 2026
About the role
As Senior Pastoral Support Worker, you will lead and deliver high-quality pastoral care across the school. Working closely with pupils, teaching staff, families, and external professionals, you will support students’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide individual pastoral and behavioural support to pupils
* Monitor the social, emotional and behavioural development of students within the school, liaising with the staff team and offering support where necessary
* Receive, supervise and support pupils who are not ready for learning or who have barriers to learning
* Support the assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help and support
* Assist in the development and implementation of individual Education/Behavioural/Supplementary/Mentoring plans and behaviour management strategies
* Help to develop one-to-one mentoring sessions with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils
* Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning, behaviour and attendance
* Support the challenge and motivation of pupils, promoting and reinforcing self-esteem
* Support pupils’ access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources
* Respond to pupils unable to access learning, ensuring a calm environment

* A caring, proactive professional with experience supporting children or young people
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
* Confidence in managing behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
* A team player who can also work independently and show initiative
* GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) or above in English and Maths
