Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666
We are seeking a Senior Advisor to influence design and delivery of Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes within the Environment Agency. The role involves advising across Defra and delivery partners, shaping incentives, and delivering CSHT products within the Farming and Countryside Programme. You will provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, oversee programme milestones, identify risks and resource needs, and work with diverse teams and senior leaders to articulate schemes that deliver outcomes. The Environment Agency ELM team sits within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team, and works in an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice in meetings and oversee commissions and programme milestones.
* Identify risks and resource requirements; manage delivery across teams and partners.
* Contribute to the design and delivery of ELM incentives within policy context.
* Engage with Defra, delivery bodies and the agriculture sector to achieve consistency.
* Support the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT).
* Collaborate in an agile, fast-paced environment; foster an inclusive culture.
Qualifications and experience
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops and advances ideas.

Working arrangements
You’ll have an incident management objective in your development plan. The Environment Agency office base location is flexible/hybrid in England; some travel/overnights required. We support flexible working patterns, including job share; guaranteed interview policy for applicants with a disability.
