Job Title: English Teacher – SEMH School

Salary: £150 - £190 per day (depending on experience and pay scale - negotiable)

Protocol Education is proud to be working with specialist SEMH schools across Gateshead and neighbouring areas, who are looking to appoint a committed and resilient English Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who can deliver engaging, creative and inclusive lessons to students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream settings.
The Role:
* Deliver the English curriculum to KS3 and KS4 pupils, often working with small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
* Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment.
* Differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of emotional and academic needs.
* Build trusting relationships with students, many of whom may display challenging behaviour linked to trauma or unmet needs.
* Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student progress and wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS) – essential
* Experience teaching English at secondary level
* Previous experience working in an SEMH or alternative provision setting is highly desirable
* Strong behaviour management skills and a trauma-informed approach
* Empathy, resilience, and a genuine desire to help young people succeed
