Starting salary: £31,977 per annum (Band A)

Responsible to: Head of Support Services

Functional links: Head of Support Services, adjudicators, contracted IT, hearing centre and administrative staff, London Councils managers and staff, Enforcement authority staff, service users

Contractual obligations: The core hours for staff is 9 am to 5 pm but we promote agile and flexible working where any variation to working hours would be agreed between the employee and the manager depending on service needs; evening and out of core hours work may be required on occasion. Currently we operate a hybrid approach with consideration to the business need, there is some home working opportunity, but regular attendance is expected at the Tribunal Centre.

Physical appearance: in general, and in particular when representing London Councils at meetings, staff are expected to maintain a smart appearance.

London Councils operates through committees of Councillors and legally has to run like a local authority. Staff therefore must have proper regard for the legal requirements on local authority staff.

Job Introduction

London Tribunals is looking for an organised, customer-focused and proactive Tribunal Assistant to join our busy and collaborative team.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of an independent tribunal service that considers appeals relating to traffic and transport enforcement across London and beyond. You will play an important role in supporting adjudicators, assisting service users and helping to ensure tribunal processes are delivered efficiently, professionally and fairly.

The role would suit someone with strong administrative and communication skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing a varied workload and providing excellent customer service.


Main Responsibilities

As a Tribunal Assistant, you will support the day-to-day administration of tribunal casework and contribute to the smooth running of the service. Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing case-related correspondence and enquiries
* Supporting adjudicators with case administration and checks
* Responding to telephone, written and face-to-face enquiries from service users and stakeholders
* Drafting correspondence and using standard templates appropriately
* Maintaining accurate records, systems and case information
* Identifying and escalating complex queries and complaints where appropriate
* Supporting meetings, training sessions and events, including minute-taking and meeting administration
* Assisting with service improvement initiatives and project administration
* Working collaboratively across the wider London Tribunals team to support service delivery

You will be expected to work flexibly, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality and customer care.


The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* The ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy environment
* Experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel
* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
* The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
* The ability to prioritise workload and work independently when required
* A collaborative and flexible approach to teamwork

Experience working in an administrative, public-facing or regulated environment would be beneficial.
