Wolviston Management Services are supporting our client in the appointment of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in the development of next-generation technology. This is an excellent opportunity to take technical ownership of mechanical design for advanced assemblies, leading the full product lifecycle from initial concept through to production release. You'll bring a strong background in SolidWorks, injection-moulded component design and thermoplastic material selection, combined with a solid understanding of DFM/DFA principles. Working in a fast-paced, innovative environment, you'll help shape robust, cost-effective mechanical solutions for demanding industrial, automotive and mobility applications—while providing day-to-day leadership and mentorship to two junior engineers. About the Role You will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical design across a diverse range of systems, ensuring designs are functional, manufacturable and aligned with industry and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities include: Leading the mechanical design and development of lithium-based battery systems, including enclosures, housings, interconnects, cooling features and mounting arrangements. Designing plastic injection-moulded components and metal fabricated parts to meet performance, quality and manufacturability requirements. Applying sound engineering judgement in thermoplastic material selection, tolerance schemes, draft angles, ribs/bosses, wall thickness, and tooling considerations. Producing detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings in SolidWorks, including full GD&T and BOM control. Supporting prototype builds, validation activities and supplier/tooling engagement. Working closely with electrical and electronics teams to integrate BMS, PCBs, harnessing and connectors within mechanical structures. Managing design reviews, maintaining documentation within ERP systems and tracking key deliverables across multiple projects. Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers, ensuring consistency and high design standards. Driving continuous improvement across materials, processes and design practices. What We're Looking For Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience). Minimum 5 years' mechanical design experience within product development or a manufacturing environment. Strong SolidWorks capability including assemblies, surfacing, configurations and technical drawings. Proven experience designing injection-moulded components, with solid DFM/DFA understanding. Good knowledge of thermoplastics (e.g., PC, ABS, PA6, PBT, PCABS, PPS) and their performance in demanding conditions. Experience designing metal components (sheet metal, machined or formed) with basic tolerance stack-up understanding. Familiarity with electro-mechanical assemblies including PCB and harness integration. Competency in GD&T, FEA and validation/testing principles. Understanding of IP ratings, thermal management and EMC considerations. Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Experience in batteries, energy storage, automotive, electro-mechanical or related sectors. Working knowledge of standards such as UN 38.3, IEC 62133 or UL 2271 (desirable). Experience working with tooling suppliers and supporting manufacturing activity. Ability to lead and mentor a small engineering team effectively
