Trainee High Intensity Therapist Newcastle/Teeside
We are looking for aspiring Cognitive Behavioural Therapists to join our Newcastle Talking Therapies service as Trainee High Intensity Therapists (HITs) in the January 2026 cohort at Teesside University. The course is a one-year PG Dip Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. A part-time route is available; trainees on that pathway will have up to 18 months to submit their final portfolio. This is a fixed-term role for 12 months.
Main duties
* Provide High Intensity CBT interventions recommended by NICE to clients with moderate to severe common mental health disorders.
* Engage in a typical week with 3 days of clinical practice and 2 days of university study (hybrid training with remote and face-to-face teaching).
* Attend one Newcastle office for part of the week and receive weekly supervision from both the university and the workplace.

Job responsibilities
* Be eligible to train in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and work toward BABCP KSA requirements.
* Meet core professional training requirements and demonstrate capacity to deliver CBT under supervision.
* Engage in supervision and professional development opportunities during the programme.
Essential Requirements
* Core professional training or qualification, or ability to demonstrate BABCP KSA requirements at interview.
* Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a mental health-related discipline (or ability to study at third-year undergraduate level).
* Membership of the BABCP from course start date.
* Availability to attend university as required (mixed format of teaching).
* Experience of working in mental health services, including risk management.
* Willingness to travel, which may include overnight stays when required.
Desirable
* Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.
* Evidence of supervised CBT practice.
* Experience in Primary Care/IAPT services.
* Experience working in a service with defined clinical outcomes.
